On January 12, 2016, President Barack Obama, began his final year in office by announcing during his State of the Union Address to Congress a “moonshot” to cure cancer. During an era when physicians are called on for action to find a cure for cancer, we tend to forget that we have available at our disposal a human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine that prevents multiple types of cancers. The first US president, George Washington, said “disorders are easier prevented than cured,” and that is how we today hope to prevent all HPV-related cancers.
