To the Editor Although designing clinical trials for older patients with cancer has been discussed previously,1,2 there are no robust methods established for geriatric oncology trials. As the aging process is heterogeneous, it is difficult to set eligibility criteria for oncology trials for older patients. Moreover, as the treatment preferences of older patients with cancer are heterogeneous, it is unclear whether traditional outcomes, such as overall survival, reflect a true benefit to these patients. The GO2 trial by Hall et al3 used a modern method to conduct tailored research for older and frail patients with advanced gastroesophageal cancer. However, it is difficult to interpret the results of this trial owing to its modern design.
