We selected the name Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI)
to reflect the growing body of evidence that both Sjögren and non-Sjögren
dry eye is characterized by a significant inflammatory reaction affecting
the entire ocular surface.1 Although this
questionnaire was originally developed and validated for the evaluation of
dry eye, we believe that it may be used, as it now exists or with modification,
for other ocular surface diseases including allergy. Therefore, we feel that
the name is appropriate.
