We read with interest the recent article by Charkoudian et al1 describing 2 cases of acute retinal necrosis following vaccination with Zostavax and wish to share our own experience of zoster retinitis following vaccination with Varivax (varicella virus vaccine, live; Merck & Co, Inc). Our case is unique, however, in that we identified the vaccine strain of the virus (Oka) in the vitreous of the involved eye.
