To the Editor This well-written analysis of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services data examined the billing and collection patterns of ophthalmologists in outpatient, nonfacility-based settings. The study reported that on average, (1) female ophthalmologists collected $0.58 for every $1 collected by a male ophthalmologist, (2) there were fewer charges submitted by female ophthalmologists, and (3) male ophthalmologists submitted different types of codes.
