Although writing reviews often tests a critic's skill of diplomacy and wordsmithing, this is not necessary with Clinical Pathways in Glaucoma by Zimmerman and Kooner. After reading the first few chapters, I asked, "why didn't I think of this?" The genuine insight of the editors lies not only in the traditional organization of the text, but also in the inclusion of important topics that are usually given short shrift in standard texts. Chapter 21, "Management of Glaucoma in Pregnancy," and chapter 22, "Management of Blind, Painful Eye from Glaucoma," are exemplary of this insight. A second compelling organizational feature is the division of each chapter into 5 broad areas: definition, epidemiology and importance, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, treatment and management, and future considerations. This structure facilitates browsing, and it helps to maintain editorial uniformity throughout the book. The references, though not encyclopedic, are current and accurate. The bibliography for chapter 18, "Principles and Complications of Medical Therapy of Glaucoma," has 309 citations.
