This book recounts the personal experiences of William C. Frayer, MD,
from the beginning of his residency in the Department of Ophthalmology at
the University of Pennsylvania in 1949, through his years as a faculty member,
to 1999, the year of the 125th anniversary of the department. As stated in
the foreword by Stuart L. Fine, MD, " . . . the name Bill Frayer is nearly
synonymous with Penn ophthalmology." Dr Frayer is an ideal person to chronicle
the people and events that have shaped this department, and ophthalmology,
throughout this crucial period of 50 years. It was a time of great change
in both medicine and ophthalmology.
