Shallow dimples or pits of the retinal surface, aligned with the macular nerve fiber layer, develop in a high proportion of eyes following internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling.1 Multiple pathogenic mechanisms for this finding have been hypothesized, including Müller cell damage and repair, direct trauma from surgical instruments, and retinal toxicity from visualization dyes.2 We present a case of inner retinal dimpling after endophthalmitis and vitrectomy without ILM peeling and discuss how this observation provides further insight into the pathophysiology of this phenomenon.
