Just a few years ago, a textbook on age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) would have included several chapters on the natural history and clinical features of the disease and a few chapters on the photocoagulation of choroidal new vessel membranes. What a joy it is, then, to see 27 chapters on ARMD, including those on epidemiology, genetics, new imaging systems, and promising new forms of therapy. The editors of this definitive textbook on macular degeneration are to be congratulated for skillfully presenting our current body of knowledge on ARMD.
