This book is a new addition to the "The Basic Bookshelf for Eyecare Professionals" series, which is, according to the publisher, "a series that provides fundamental and advanced material with a clinical approach to clinicians and students." I found the text to be appropriately written for ophthalmic technical and nursing personnel.

This book discusses the most frequently performed office and outpatient surgical procedures in each ophthalmology specialty, systematically describing the key points regarding the surgery and/or its disease process, providing background information regarding the surgery and a brief description of the surgery itself. The text includes preoperative considerations, postoperative information, and counseling notes specific to each surgery. Each section also contains a subsection called "What the Patient Needs to Know," which is devoted to helpful reminders about needs specific to that particular type of surgery. The author refers to appropriate manuals or references if the reader requires more information for a particular eye disorder. Owing to the brevity of the book, only the most common surgical procedures in each specialty are discussed.
