What Has the American Medical Association Done for You Lately?

Arch Ophthalmol. 2000;118(4):556. doi:10.1001/archopht.118.4.556

WE'VE ALL heard the catchphrase, "What have you done for me lately?" In the case of the American Medical Association (AMA), I believe that the answer is "Quite a bit." With managed care chipping away at patient rights and physician fees, and the ever-shrinking Medicare dollar, our professional futures are literally at stake. The key to gaining control of our futures is a cohesive voice for medicine that makes us stronger and louder than we are as independent specialties. We must be able to cut through the noise that often surrounds important issues. The AMA has provided that strength.
