In Ophthalmology Pearls, Dr Gault provides a vignette-based review text. It follows the format of the Pearls Series published by Hanley & Belfus, which includes similar reviews of more than 25 fields of medicine. In the ophthalmology version, 18 authors contribute 92 case presentations, each with corresponding clinical illustrations. The format is similar to other Pearls Series books. Each case is presented on 2 pages. The first page includes a short description of symptoms and a review of systems, relevant findings on ocular examination, and ancillary test results. This is followed by a specific question, usually prompting the reader for a diagnosis. Alternatively, the reader may be asked to supply the differential diagnosis, need for further diagnostic evaluation, or treatment plan. The second page includes a discussion of the clinical entity, followed by 3 or 4 clinical "pearls" illustrated by the case.
