Abstract

This concise but detailed guide has for its purpose the collection, recording and interpretation of data on a uniform and scientific basis. Stress is laid on the importance of ocular examinations by ophthalmologists, on study sufficient to determine the underlying causation whenever possible, on detailed registration in standardized form and on authoritative interpretation of the summarized findings.

The collection of data in accordance with these principles should be of value not only in statistics but, eventually, in the prevention of blindness and the conservation of vision.
