Several awards were made by the Executive Committee of the Section on Ophthalmology at the 105th Annual Meeting of the American Medical Association, Chicago.

  1. The Prize in Ophthalmology. The following remarks were made by Dr. Trygve Gundersen in presentation: "It is my signal honor as chairman of your executive committee to present this medal, 'The Prize in Ophthalmology,' to our beloved friend and leader Derrick T. Vail. Nothing could possibly give me greater pleasure. It would require a major opus to sing of the accomplishments of this illustrious man. To point out all his accomplishments would indeed take much research and writing, perhaps even more time than that allowed by our constitution and bylaws. Offhand when one thinks of his accomplishments a flood of important contributions and a flood of recollections of jobs well done come to mind. His thousands of patients would naturally acclaim him as their doctor—those whose
