Various complications1-3 at the time of removal of corneoscleral sutures have been reported. In an effort to minimize the dangers certain workers3-5 have advocated special techniques.
In the present article a new technique of suture removal is described.
Methods and Materials
The eye is thoroughly cleansed with the help of some antiseptic or antibiotic lotion. Surface anesthesia is induced by two to three instillations of 1% tetracaine hydrochloride (Anethaine) drops at intervals of one to two minutes.The upper lid is pulled up against the superior orbital margin with the help of a cotton swab under the left thumb.
