Siderosis Lentis Produced by an Intralenticular Foreign Body

Introduction  Characteristic of retained intraocular ferrous foreign bodies is widespread dispersion of iron throughout the globe, producing siderosis bulbi. Histologically in this condition iron deposition is demonstrable principally within the epithelial structures of the eye, including the lens epithelium.An intralenticular ferrous foreign body in the case to be presented resulted in siderosis limited to the lens.

Report of a Case 

History.  —A 23-year-old Puerto Rican man experienced a foreign body sensation in his right eye while hammering on a nut with a steel chisel. Three days later " a cloud" developed in front of the right eye.On admission to Bellevue Hospital three months following the injury, visual acuity was OD: counting fingers at 2 feet; OS: 15/15. A healed perforating wound of the right cornea was present at the midperiphery in the 9 o'clock meridian. No flare or floaters were present in the anterior chamber. Gonioscopy revealed an open
