Although the symposium which this text handsomely transcribes was held to consider the differential diagnosis of posterior uveitis, the actual subject matter ranges far beyond the stated title. Retinal diseases are presented covering a broad range of clinical entities, including congenital lesions, retinal abiotrophies, peripheral retinal degenerations, macular degenerations, the granulomatous uveitides, and tumors. The protocol for most of 36 pathologic entities discussed includes genetics, pathology, clinical descriptions, and course and management of the disease. Brief summations of each topic are followed by a lively open discussion by all the participants, which adds valuable clinical "pearls" to the formal presentations. Handsomely illustrated and superbly edited, the text offers a broad-ranging survey of the current thinking on many of the most important and perplexing problems confronting the practitioner of ophthalmology.
