Abstract

The three-step technique for diagnosing an isolated paretic vertical muscle is reviewed and further simplified. Muscle groups are suggested as an aid to using this diagnostic technique. Several cases are presented illustrating its use.

The same muscle groups are used as a guide to the selection of the proper vertical muscle for corrective surgery. It is emphasized that a final diagnosis is not essential for this selection.
