Although published primarily for lay use this most useful loose-leaf compendium of statistics related to blindness should be called to the attention of ophthalmologists. As stated in the foreword, "The available data on which to base such estimates (of blindness), and those presented here can not be offered as substitutes for what may be the actual figures." Nevertheless, these are the best available, a most welcome source for quick reference on a subject for which accurate data is difficult to obtain.
The National Society for the Prevention of Blindness is to be congratulated for undertaking this valuable statistical compilation.
