—In the Archives (79:506 [April] 1968). Richard R. Tenzel, MD, refers to superior limbic keratoconjunctivitis (SLKC). His observation of elevated protein-bound iodine values in several patients is of great interest, although he does not indicate what prompted this test in nonhyperthyroid patients.Since 1964, I have observed details of ten patients with this eye disorder on whom I am preparing a paper for early publication. Two of these ten were actively thyrotoxic at the time SLKC was diagnosed, and three others of the same group had previously had thyrotoxicosis. While investigations continue for a viral or viral-induced mechanism, atention should also be given to this association with thyroid disease.
