The second edition of Optics: An Introduction for Ophthalmologists continues to serve the student ophthalmologist as "preparation for his study of refraction of the eye and as a background for his understanding of physiological optics and visual physiology." This revision of the first edition has permitted some changes in the text and figures. Of particular interest, in one appendix, the answers to the exercises have been added. The primary concern of this treatise is the broad field of elementary geometrical optics and it is represented so that no unusual mathematical aptitude is required.
The contents of the book includes an introductory review of the physical nature of light, a discussion of the vergence concept and thin lens theory, and a description of the characteristics of the optical system of the eye. The optical principles of certain ophthalmic instruments are also discussed. The liberal use of diagrams aids the reader in
