This very readable volume is a monograph in the American Lectures in Living Chemistry series which should be particularly valuable to ophthalmologists, most of whom have little background in basic biochem'stry. Each major group of disorders (protein, carbohydrate, fat, mineral, etc) is introduced by a short, simplified resumé of the pertinent biochemistry followed by a description of the related clinical conditions.
In the final chapter, the authors touch upon the effect of the population explosion on world nutrition, the most pressing problem facing us today.
