Vitreous Hemorrhage: An Experimental Study: II. Hemoglobin Degradation

Arch Ophthalmol. 1970;83(4):466-469. doi:10.1001/archopht.1970.00990030466015
Abstract

Using isotopes, this study traced hemoglobin breakdown products after hemoglobin injection into rabbit vitreous. Elimination of breakdown products was rapid during the first week, and after one month only 10% of the initial radioactivity was detected. Chromatography strongly suggests that a bilirubin-like product is present 18 days after injection.
