—I am writing in connection with the article entitled "A Preliminary Study of the Effect of Chloroquine on the Rat Retina" by B. John Hodgkinson and Helga Kolb published in the Archives (84:509-515, 1970).May I point out that a paper along these lines, "Irreversible Lysosomal Damage Induced by Chloroquine in the Retinae of Pigmented and Albino Rats" by myself and R. J. Hendy was published in April (Exp Molec Path12:185-200, 1970). It dealt with the whole question of the mode of action of chloroquine on lysosomes in the retina and the nature and consequences of these effects. A presentation of this work to the Society of Toxicology was made in March 1970, the abstracts being distributed in advance of the meeting and are now published (Toxic Appl Pharmacol17:298-299, 1970).While I fully realize the difficulties involved in keeping track of all
