Mr. Stimson's book "Ophthalmic Dispensing," ed 2, has an updated text that deserves consideration by teachers planning courses in Opticianry and Beginning Dispensing alike. Many books have been written about the subject, and it is difficult to find between one set of covers a text that offers all the information wanted and needed. Stimson has had long experience as a dispensing optician and now heads an optical firm in Southern California.
His book (which contains more than 600 pages) is a relatively complete compilation of specific technical data, much of it given in tables, graphs, and illustrations, but the reader must have a broad knowledge of the field to use this work effectively.
To the extent that Ophthalmic Dispensing is to be used as an academic textbook, it is unfortunate that the majority of references are relatively out of date, most of them dating back to 1948 or earlier, and
