A review of electrical hazards in ophthalmology is presented. The electrically susceptible patient is defined and the risks of ophthalmologic examination and treatment of such a patient are discussed. Ophthalmologists are urged to review the electrical hazards in their own practice locations and invited to participate in the electrical safety program of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation.
