This book was written by Dr. Barbosa and six contributors primarily as an atlas of surgical technique. Various forehead and cheek flaps are described that can be used to reconstruct defects surrounding the orbits. The usefulness of the text as a reference will be limited because of the absence of a bibliography.
One chapter is devoted to the treatment of orbital and eyelid tumors. The only method of lid reconstruction that is described is the Mustarde advancement flap. Enucleation is briefly and inadequately discussed. Techniques of exenteration are illustrated both with and without removal of the bony orbital walls. The value of these descriptions, together with those of orbital exploration, is restricted by the lack of detailed illustrations of orbital anatomy.
Despite these shortcomings, ophthalmologists will find much of the text valuable in understanding procedures used in the treatment of salivary, sinus, and nasal tumors.
