To the Editor.  —I have just concluded reading Dr Simmons Lessell's annual review on neuro-ophthalmology (the Archives 93:434, 1975). As always, I enjoyed reading it and have learned much.There is a minor error in his report on our study of the receptors of the myasthenic neuromuscular junctions. The labeled alpha-bungarotoxin is derived from a snake called the manybanded krait, Bungarus multicinctus, and not from the cobra. The cobra also produces a neurotoxin. The cobra toxin also binds with the receptors, but the binding is believed to be reversible, unlike the bungarotoxin. In fact, the block caused by the cobra alpha-toxin in vivo in animals has some similarities to the myasthenic neuromuscular transmission (Science 187:955, 1975).
