The book contains the proceedings of the ninth meeting of Club Jules Gonin. The Club is an international retinal society that meets every 18 months to discuss interim information on retinal disease and its treatment. The meeting that this volume reports on was held in June 1974 in the casino of LaBaule, a turn-of-the-century resort on the coast of Brittany. The setting suits the membership, which is small and contains many of the prestigious professors of ophthalmology of Europe and the Americas. In recent years the membership has been augmented by a younger group selected from the retinal cult.
The book is handsomely printed and illustrated. This volume is the thin nest to date, less than an inch thick, reflecting rising printing costs that now require the Club to charge contributors for each page of manuscript beyond four. Fifty papers comprise this edition, 30 less than in the previous volume.
