This is the second volume in the series Major Problems in Ophthalmology. To my knowledge, this is the first time a book is entirely devoted to the sclera and its diseases. This book fills a void and fills it admirably. It is fortunate that the distinguished ophthalmologist from the University of Cambridge has obtained the collaboration of a rheumatologist from the same university. The book covers not only scleral diseases, but it also gives an excellent introduction to the diseases of the joints in general and of rheumatoid arthritis in specific. The classification of scleritis has always been a point of dispute. The authors present a new one and it is certainly a well-documented and logical one. It should be the model for future discussions on diseases of the sclera. The chapter on treatment reflects the personal experience of the authors and should be of value to anybody who only
