To the Editor.
—In their interesting article on ocular findings in thoracicpelvic-phalangeal dystrophy (Archives 97:489-492, 1979), Allen et al describe diffuse ophthalmoscopic changes that are particularly prominent in the fundus midperiphery. These findings resemble changes we described in certain other hereditary syndromes with associated renal involvement.1 In one of our cases, too, ophthalmoscopic changes preceded significant renal disease. Could all these cases fit into a broader spectrum of hereditary disorders with variable retinal and renal involvement? Further investigation of these interesting and unusual entities is indicated.
