Twenty-five years ago, Dr Boyd started his Highlights, and these two volumes represent a culmination of this long and important endeavor. From the beginning, this publication had a somewhat unusual and unique aspect. It was not so much a publication of scientific articles, but a presentation of a modern development or recent discovery that was written as an interview conducted by the editor with the investigator. Such a presentation has many advantages. It allows a practically instantaneous dissemination of new advances or new knowledge to a large readership. It differs, however, from the usual scientific publication in that it is not so much original material that is presented for the first time, but a summary of the present state of the art in a specific area.
