This book constitutes the 1981 report to the French Ophthalmological Society given by a group of experts from various cities. As usual, it is a handsome presentation of the entire topic, with excellent illustrations and as complete a bibliography as one can expect.
The secretory and excretory systems are covered, with an excellent chapter on the physiologic and pathologic characteristics of the tears. The anatomic sketches are excellent, but, again, the color plates are outstanding. These are not only of clinical pictures and histologic specimens but also of cross sections showing the normal anatomy of the lacrimal system.
Each chapter also contains a short discussion on the medical and surgical treatment of the various pathologic conditions. The reproduction of roentgenograms and computed tomography scans are satisfactory. It is only regrettable that modern echographic diagnosis could not be considered.
