This book represents a condensation of the long experience of the senior author in allergic diseases of the eye, having published a previous book with Abraham Schlossman, MD, in 1958, and manuals by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Complex immune mechanisms are simplified in the first chapter, the pathology of the immune response is discussed in the second chapter, and the general principles of treatment are highlighted in the third chapter. Then follows descriptions and management of various allergic and immunologic diseases of the conjunctiva, eyelids, cornea, sclera, episclera, uvea, retina, optic nerve, orbit, lacrimal gland, and tumor immunology. A glossary describes briefly various immunologic terms.
The text is written so succinctly that the extensive material is covered within a short book, incorporating a large bibliography, excellent illustrations, and many tables. This book is a fine contribution to the present status of a complex and important aspect of ocular pathology.
