The inability of physicians to manage the financial aspects of their practices is legendary, and any help in the area would surely be welcome. Unfortunately, this slim volume addresses only one aspect of the business side of practice—obtaining debt and equity financing. The chapters describe what a potential lender will need to know and the various approaches available to a potential borrower. In some instances, the book does little more than list alternatives (commercial banks, leasing companies, thrift institutions, etc). Perhaps more useful are the four brief case studies, which outline very different practice situations requiring debt financing, and the sample practice plan, which describes how a pediatric practice would prepare a description of its finances in preparation for a loan.
