Abstract

NSPB Applied Research Program Announced.  —The National Society to Prevent Blindness (NSPB) announces a newly established program in applied research. The purpose of the program is to identify, fund, and promote research directed at maximizing the impact of NSPB sight-saving programs.Research areas that are of particular interest include: screening methods (eg, vision, glaucoma, and infant and childhood eye problems), ocular trauma prevention, vision statistics, identification of populations at risk for ocular disorders, and approaches to improving the provision of eye care.The NSPB Applied Research Committee, Alfred Sommer, MD, chairman, welcomes letters of interest as well as suggestions for additional areas of research.
