The mere logistics of collating the essays of 164 individual contributors into a cohesive and timely text would intimidate most editors. Stephen Ryan and his six associate editors have managed to accomplish that Herculean task, and have produced a three-volume encyclopedia of authoritative discussions on a wide range of topics related to the physiology and pathology of the posterior segment of the globe.
