Abstract

The Optic Neuritis Treatment Trial.—Recruitment is continuing for the Optic Neuritis Treatment Trial, a prospective, randomized, collaborative, clinical trial sponsored by the National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health. The primary objective of this study is to determine the value of oral prednisone and intravenous methylprednisolone in the treatment of optic neuritis. In 1 year, 190 patients were entered into the treatment trial at the 15 participating centers. This exceeded the expected number by 30%, but additional patients are still needed.
