—The academic merger of ophthalmology and optometry (discussed in the February 19911 issue of the Archives) stimulated in me a strange fever. Awakened in the night and driven by this fever, I discovered an ancient crystal ball long hidden away. In its depths I read the following letters, emblazoned in fire:NOW THAT WE POSSESS YOUR KNOWLEDGE, WHO CAN DENY US YOUR JOB?Perhaps in a few years Professor Yanoff, the patriarch of this new ophthalmology-optometry love feast, will explicate for us these disturbing phrases.
