The editorial by Dr Sommer, "Disease Prevention and Health Promotion: A Clinical Primer,"1 exemplifies what Dr Sommer and many others have stressed for many years. Although these concepts are often voiced by government and private agencies, it should be noted, especially by Medicare, that many reimbursement programs will not cover well care, preventive care, or routine examinations. It is difficult to reap the savings from preventive care when the third parties will not reimburse patients who seek it.
