Abstract

Three years ago, I began attending phacoemulsification courses in earnest and shortly thereafter began my conversion from extracapsular to phacoemulsification surgery. But not until establishing a practice surgery laboratory for our residents (to which the donation of the first edition of this book was made) did I realize the enormous contribution Dr Seibel made to my understanding of the procedure. In one night's reading of his book, I learned more about phacoemulsification surgery than in all of my previous course time. His textbook, now an improved and more thorough second edition, has become the cornerstone of my teaching. Simply put, this is a book that every cataract surgeon must review.

Fortunately, Dr Seibel has expanded his message into a second edition by adding Section Two "Anterior Chamber Fluidics" and lengthening previous sections on "Machine Technology" and "Overview of Phacoemulsification Techniques." The text is easily read in about 2 to 3
