This book on lacrimal gland, tear film, and dry eye syndromes is a compendium of individual chapters that are presented in the format of articles on individual subjects, all of which fall under the general headings of lacrimal gland, tear film, and dry eye. The collection is logically ordered under general topics such as lacrimal gland anatomy, enervation, lacrimal gland electrophysiology, water and ion transport, lacrimal gland signal transduction, protein secretion, and lacrimal gland immunology. There are 15 such headings, with 6 to 11 articles on each subject. It is apparent that the authors were encouraged to present a discussion of their individual topic and incorporate their own data as appropriate. Thus, each article is less a review and more a presentation of data with discussion; thus, this is not a textbook. The style of each author has been maintained with its distinct qualities and idiosyncrasies.
