At the Royal University of Groningen in The Netherlands, an International Symposium on Bronchitis was convened under the leadership of N. A. M. Orie, M.D., Professor of Pulmonary Diseases, and H. J. Sluiter, M.D., Clinical Chief of Pulmonary Diseases of the Medical Department of the University of Groningen.
Very definitely this was a misnomer. It was not an International Symposium. It was a European Symposium, for apparently no one from the Western Hemisphere was asked to participate. At least none participated. But this should not deter our American colleagues from reading these translations of the proceedings, for by far the greater number of these papers are well worthy of our consideration.
Each topic for discussion is well prepared by an authority in the particular field assigned him. Then one or more men had been asked to prepare a formal discussion on each of these presentations. But best of all an
