Despite the many articles discussing the value of performing an adenoidectomy at the time of tympanostomy tube placement, Mikals and Brigger performed a systematic review utilizing the PubMed and EMBASE databases to determine the value of performing both procedures at 1 sitting. Fifteen articles including 71 891 cases met the inclusion criteria. Despite multiple study shortcomings, including the retrospective data as well as the source data heterogeneity, the authors found that performing both procedures together may reduce the need to repeat surgery in children older than 4 years.
