Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is not much more than a rare disease with a long name. For me, the disease has been a catalyst for moral thought. This autoimmune vasculitis received a name change in 2011 from Wegener granulomatosis to its current name. The Vasculitis Foundation stated that they would use the intermediary term, “granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Wegener’s),” for “several years” to facilitate the transition and to avoid complicating literature searches.1
