In this issue of JAMA Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery, Hur et al1 suggest that during the past decade, the use of diagnostic nasal endoscopy in the Medicare population has increased substantially and this increase has not been paralleled by a similar increase in surgical ethmoidectomy. The overall increase in the number of endoscopies was also accompanied by marked variability in endoscopy utilization across different states, with some states showing a large increase and others showing smaller increases.
