The Sleep Heart Health Study is an exceptional observational study, 1 of the most followed and heavily cited studies within the field of sleep research. Using long-term data from this landmark study spanning a mean follow-up period of 11.1 years, Lisan et al1 found a significant 62% lower risk of all-cause mortality in patients with obesity and severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who were prescribed positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy compared with patients not prescribed PAP.
