It is always difficult to decide how much detail to include in publications, and it would take many pages to describe every aspect of this study. We are guided in part by the standard that there should be sufficient information for another researcher in the field to conduct an independent test of the hypothesis. We ordinarily omit details of statistical matters that are familiar to researchers and statisticians, just as we omit details of surgical technique that are familiar to otolaryngologists. Because replies to letters to the editor ought to be even more concise than the original article, we choose not to devote many words to addressing each of Dr Yaremchuk's concerns in print. We have sent the editor a longer document elaborating on points that we only summarize here.
