Le Heux and de Kleijn30 studied the influence of unilateral extirpation of the labyrinth in cats on the movements of the alimentary canal. In the first series of experiments bilateral vagotomy was performed and after the animals had entirely recovered the movements of the alimentary canal were carefully studied by means of roentgenograms after the method of Cannon. Some time later unilateral extirpation of the labyrinth was performed, and the following day the gastro-intestinal movements were again examined. In a second series of experiments exactly the same examinations were made, the only difference being that instead of the vagus nerve the sympathetic nerves of the alimentary canal were cut.
