A new method and a new device to provide combined proximal and distal lighting for bronchoesophagoscopic procedures are designed to accomplish the following purposes: 1. To enable one to use tubes of various lengths during a bronchoesophagoscopic operation without the necessity of reintroducing the instrument. The tubes can be changed quickly and without discomfort to the patient. The principle of extending tubes has been rejected. 2. To permit the use of tubes of suitable length for bronchoesophagoscopic examinations and operations. 3. To increase the working lumen of the tubes. 4. To permit the use of proximal and distal illumination under the most favorable conditions.
The aims have been achieved by the construction of a simple device which allows tubes of various lengths to be changed without the necessity of reintroduction of the bronchoesophagoscope and permits the diameter of the tubes to be increased without the use of any special mechanism
